Celebrating his 40th year in various sports media in New England, few people are better suited to head up our team of Gamecasters than SnapCall Sports Director, Jimmy Young. Young’s career is varied and riddled with awards in the sports arena including, a NATAS NE Emmy Award for his Kid Company’s SportsWorld Talk show for kids in 1996 while at New England Cable News.
As a Junior at Tufts University, Young started his career at WBZ TV4 working as a Sports Producer on the weekends with Jimmy Myers. Upon graduation in 1979, he hosted his first sports talk show on WLYN-AM/FM just north of Boston. He spent over a decade at the CBS affiliate in Portland, Maine at WGME TV as sports anchor/reporter before returning to the Boston area in 1992 to host his own 90-minute sports talk and wrap-up show on New England Cable News called, Jimmy Young's SportsWorld.
In 1996-7, Young was the TV Color Analyst for the NE Revolution Soccer team during the first two years of MLS. During the 2000's, Young transitioned to media sales where he excelled for NECN and for Boston Globe Media. In 2008, he founded Young Broadcasters of America and, during its five years of operation, he trained and mentored hundreds of young people under the age of 18 in on camera performance. YBA live streamed over 1500 hours of programming while also earning an Emmy Nomination for KSPORTS New England, a 30-minute magazine show that aired on NESN.
Young currently acts as an adjunct Professor at Curry College where he teaches an Introduction to Sportscasting course in radio and TV. He holds a Soccer Coaching License from the USSF and, for over 35 years, has coached at every level of youth soccer, from the state level to local travel teams. He is the father of a 26-year-old son, Gabe, and resides in Needham, MA with his fiancé, Donna Star.
