The Curious Case of Kirk

The Curious Case of Kirk

The Redskins front-office is inept.

Glad we got that out of the way. They've flubbed this Kirk Cousins situation in a way that only they (and the Jets...and the Browns) could. Dan Snyder found a way to make a guy the highest-paid player in the NFL for 2-years running, and still offend him enough that he WANTS TO GO TO PLAY FOR THE 49ERS INSTEAD! The lack of urgency from Washington to lock Cousins up long-term is a slap in the face, regardless of the paycheck. Everyone wants to be courted, and their front-office just inexplicably refuses.

No matter what other reports come out now, this is my take on the soon-to-be-former-Redskin, because it's smoke-screen season, and I'll find it hard to believe anything else that comes from Washington's front-office.

The real question is: is he worth all the hoopla on the field?

What is Wrong with the Cubs' Offense?

July 12, 2017

The Cubs are two games below .500 at the break, and their once vaunted offense is struggling mightily. Just when we thought these sluggers would be competing for titles for a decade, they go back to being lovable losers? What's the excuse? The loss of Dexter Fowler to free agency? The .179 batting average of Kyle Schwarber? Injuries to Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist? The cold start for Anthony Rizzo? Those things don't help, but there has to be some more concrete info under the hood.

Crunching the Numbers on Trading #1

July 03, 2017

Did Danny Ainge make the right move in trading the #1 pick in this past NBA draft? On one hand, the Celtics continue to stockpile assets that they claim to want to move for a big star. On the other hand, they moved down to #3 in a draft that had two transcendent point guards, which is undeniably the most important position in the league these days. You can debate individual prospects til the cows come home, but we asked it during our live SnapCall coverage of the draft, and we'll ask it again here:

Is it ever really worth giving up the #1 pick in the NBA Draft?

So Close Yet So Far From Fixing Pace of Play

So Close Yet So Far From Fixing Pace of Play

Cutting out intentional walk pitches won't speed up games, and won't take away from what makes baseball great either. Intentional balls are irrelevant to the game. Will it be odd to see the first few times? Sure, but no tangible impact on outcomes. Accidental strikes or swings never really happened, nor did wild pitches on those throws. So why is that the option that baseball uses to sell the fans that they're trying to speed up their game?
